Charlie Harris
Charlie Harris, a highly respected accordionist originally from County Limerick and now a long-time resident of East Galway, is widely celebrated for his vibrant, swinging style and deep commitment to traditional Irish music. He began his musical life at age 11 with the tin whistle, later emigrating to London in the 1970s where he learned the melodeon and was mentored by some of the finest traditional musicians of the era. Inspired by the great Joe Cooley from nearby Peterswell, Charlie soon mastered the melodeon and later the button accordion, an instrument he continues to play with distinction. He also became a skilled repairer and tuner of melodeons and accordions. A founding member of the acclaimed Shaskeen Ceilí Band, Charlie helped bring the Galway/Clare style of music to international audiences. In 2009, he was honoured with the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Musician of the Year Award.
He currently performs with the legendary Tulla Céilí Band and plays weekly sessions in Peppers Pub with fiddler Mark Donnellan. A regular presence at the Feakle Festival, Charlie has contributed richly to concerts and sessions throughout the years. Charlie will be joined by many of his musical friends on the night, promising an unforgettable evening of shared talent and lively collaboration.
