Maitiú Ó Casaide, Odhrán O Casaide and Steve Cooney
Maitiú Ó Casaide, Odhrán Ó Casaide, and Steve Cooney unite in a compelling musical collaboration, combining tradition and skill with creative accompaniment to create a strong and engaging sound.
Maitiú Ó Casaide is an uilleann piper from the renowned Ó Casaide family, with strong ties to Gaoth Dobhair. Raised in a deeply musical household, he was immersed in Irish music and song from a young age. He studied at Na Píobairí Uilleann under leading teachers and was named TG4 Ceoltóir Óg na Bliana in 2015. Maitiú performs widely, including with The Bonny Men, and is recognised for his expressive and skilful piping.
Odhrán Ó Casaide, also from this celebrated musical family, is a highly accomplished violinist and uilleann piper. Trained in Dublin, Vienna, and Manchester, he has performed classical concertos with orchestras including the Denver Symphony Orchestra. Rooted in the Donegal Gaeltacht tradition, his playing bridges classical and traditional styles.
They are accompanied by Steve Cooney, whose pioneering guitar style and vast experience bring depth and drive to the trio’s sound. Widely regarded as a transformative figure in Irish traditional accompaniment, his playing is both rhythmic and inventive. His sensitivity as an accompanist allows the music to breathe, enhancing and supporting the distinctive styles of Maitiú and Odhrán.
