Donie Nolan and Taylor’s cross
The West Limerick accordion player and singer, Donie Nolan, is no stranger to traditional musicians and listeners. Anyone with knowledge of traditional Irish music in Ireland speaks highly of the influence Donie has had on music and musicians alike, especially in the west Limerick region. Donie is a quiet, unassuming individual, but a giant in the Irish music world. He launched his first solo CD, ‘The Banks of the Abha Bhán’, in July 2016, and it was certainly an album worth the wait. It’s a CD full of lovely choices and surprises that demonstrates the breadth and beauty of Donie’s style and his instinctive musicianship. In the sleeve notes, you get a lovely glimpse of the range of the musical journey this man has made since he first picked up an accordion.
